The Regional Internship Center of southwestern PA (RIC), which began in 2003, brokers connections between internship seekers and employers throughout the region. Through targeted outreach and training, the RIC enables internship seekers and employers to explore working together to determine whether they are a good fit for a long-term employment relationship.
The Regional Internship Center operates due to generous support from Heinz Endowments, The Richard King Mellon Foundation, The Alcoa Foundation, and The Benedum Foundation all services provided by the RIC are free to students and employers.
The Regional Internship Center is part of the Coro Center for Civic Leadership. The Mission of Coro is to advance ethical and effective leaders who share a commitment to civic engagement. Coro’s vision is to build a leadership pipeline for Pittsburgh’s business, government and nonprofit sectors.
As part of its ongoing retention efforts to attract and retain the talent of the upcoming workforce, the RIC hosts a series of summer programs for interns that showcase some of the best amenities that Pittsburgh has to offer. By creating a social experience that highlights the Pittsburgh area, the RIC hopes to encourage these interns to consider staying in or relocating here upon graduation, and adding their talent permanently to our regional companies.
The RIC serves employers in the counties of Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Crawford, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer, Washington, and Westmoreland, as well as the Panhandle of West Virginia. The RIC partners with over sixty educational institutions in the region, and operates as a central point where students can connect to internship opportunities.
Internships are an opportunity to create a competitive advantage for the region by leveraging our upcoming workforce and the knowledge they bring to employers. By connecting internship seekers with area employers and providing them with work experience, they will be more inclined to stay in the region after graduation.
***As of August 16, 2010, the RIC has begun to charge a $35 per year processing fee for employers to help maintain our website. Remember, this $35 per year PER company. Any company can have more than one profile user, and the majority of you take advantage of this!
* This processing fee provides your company with unlimited internship postings and access to the RIC team to help you by answering questions about your talent pipeline, brainstorm solutions to internship road blocks, or other internship related questions. We also provide valuable information about the ever changing nature of internships all in one spot by linking to resources and providing information about our region and the workforce. We highlight the wonderful successes of your companies!
