Telephone Interview Tips!

We've received a lot of questions lately about telephone interviewing. Many companies use phone interviews as the first step in their interview process to narrow down their search. A few tips from the RIC staff:

-Make sure to answer your phone whenever you have a pre-scheduled telephone interview! Nothing says "I don't care about this internship" more than not answering your phone!

-Be sure to be in a place without a lot of background noise.

-Be professional! Answer questions with "Yes" and "No," avoid slang, and answer questions that are asked of you.

-Pauses are ok! It is much better to pause and collect your thoughts rather than to completely change the subject and not answer the interviewers question. Interviewers would much rather you pause and give a good answer rather than a not-so-good quick answer.
