Overview

Join the New Voices Pittsburgh Team as we build our organization and movement for Reproductive Justice! We are looking for passionate, charismatic, hard-working people to gain experience organizing women of color to act for our own Human Rights and become leaders in our national social change movement for Reproductive Justice.

We are accepting our next class of interns for the Spring and we want YOU! New Voices Pittsburgh resists oppression in all forms against women of color, our bodies and our reproduction through social change activism, civic engagement and leadership development.

Responsibilities

Operations

1. Office Management:
conducting office hours, office organization, supply purchases, scheduling, supporting administration

2. Communications:
work with Communications Manager to social media management (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, etc.), responding and directing email, materials development, media training to communicate to traditional press (newspapers, radio, television), media creation, e-communications, text messaging systems, blogging locally and nationally

3. Human Resources:
work with consultants to build our Human Resources structure, review HR manual, co-write job descriptions, explore collective and cooperative structures, support recruitment of new Staff and Board Members

4. Information Technology:
maintain website, social media sites, computer network, email systems, seach engine optimiztation

Fundraising

1. Individual Donor Management:
conduct individual donor weekly call times with Members and Volunteers, support donor database maintainence, communicate with current and potential donors, plan events to recruit new donors and thank current donors, develop new strategies for donors to donate through technology (online, text messaging)

2. Grantwriting:
research potential grants, attend meetings with current funders witht he Executve Director, maintain grant calendar, co-write grants for specific areas of our work, develop grants management process

3. Social Enterprise:
explore alternative profit generation strategies, develop NVP line of promotional items, develop business plan for our consulting arm

Leadership Development

1. Volunteers:
develop and expand the Movement-Building Volunteer Corps with the Program Director, recruit new volunteers, attend community events to share our work, communicate with volunteers, support volunteer database maintainence, plan Volunteer recruitment, orientation and recognition events

2. Membership:
develop and expand Membership Program with the Executive Director, recruit new members, attend community events to share our work, communicate with members, support membership database maintainence, plan Membership recruitment, orientation and recognition events

3. Internships:
develop and expand Internship Program with the Program Director, build personal relationships with internship and advisor offices at colleges and universities, manage online recruitment platforms (Idealist, Regional Internship Center, etc.), recruit new classes of interns, update internship descriptions, attend community events to share our work and internships, communicate with interns, collect applications, schedule interviews, plan Internship recruitment, orientation and recognition events

4. Board of Directors:
develop and expand Board of Directors/Management Circle Program with the Executive Director, manage online recruitment platforms, recruit new classes of Board Members, update Request for Applications as necessary, attend community events to recruit, support communications to the Board, collect applications, schedule interviews, plan Board recruitment, orientation and recognition events

Skills and Qualifications
- Must be a current Sophomore or higher to apply; if you are a Freshmen, we welcome you to volunteer at New Voices Pittsburgh (volunteer@newvoicespittsburgh.org)
- Major/Field of Study: We are open to all majors; however, we prefer Africana Studies, Business (Accounting, Finances, Human Resources), Communications, Community Organization and Advocacy, Cultural Studies, Environmental Studies, Information Technology, Latin American Studies, Library Science, Non-Profit Administration, Political Science, Public Administration, Queer Studies, Social Work, Urban Studies and Women's Studies
- Interest/experience in Activism, Community Organizing, Human Rights, Reproductive Justice and Social Justice
- Desire to create social, economic and political opportunities for women of color
- Possession or desire to gain excellent oral and written communications
- Demonstrate discipline and motivation in completing assigned tasks, exhibit ability to work independently at and away from the NVP Office and excellent time management skills
- Ability to work with a diverse continuum of women and people of color including but not limited to ability, age, education, familial status, gender identity, immigrant status, incarceration status, race, sex, sexual orientation and socioeconomic status
- Must be willing to travel if necessary; we will make every effort to plan and schedule in advance
