Position Title: Program Intern Last Revision Date: January 2011
Reports To: Program Director or Designee Supervisors Others: No
Classification: Non-paid
General Description
Girls Hope of Pittsburgh provides learning opportunities for college students in order for them to become acquainted with the mission and values of Girls Hope and to gain experience in the field of children’s services.
Major Areas of Responsibility
1) Administrative
a. Participate in weekly administrative team meetings and build relationships with administrative staff
b. Attend and participate in meetings with families and referral sources
c. Learn and utilize agency database systems including Armor and Sharepoint
d. Maintain scholar records as they pertain to the DPW 3800 regulations
e. Participate in the Quality Performance Assessment Review
f. Become familiar with Title I funding
g. Read relevant literature regarding residential living, behavior management, education, cultural competence, ethics and mental health disorders
h. Participate in agency trainings as they are offered
i. Other duties as assigned
2) Residential
a) Attend weekly residential staff meetings and build relationships with residential staff
b) Attend and document individualized service plan meetings
c) Assist with referral assessments and social histories
d) Implement activities with scholars
e) Assist Scholars with the College Compass and College Map
f) Assist Scholars with college/scholarship applications
g) Conduct group activities with scholars
h) Assist residential staff with some day-to-day running of the home
i) Assist older scholars with summer job search
j) Assist scholars with organizational, life and study skills
k) Other duties as assigned

Critical Criteria
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and be working toward a Bachelors or Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university. A valid driver's license is also required.
The Program Intern will be required to submit to a criminal history background check including Act 33/34; FBI clearances. The following competencies are important for success:
• Self-starter, highly motivated and organized
• Strong attention to detail with ability to prioritize workload, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Willingness to be part of a team
• Ability to maintain positive communications with scholars, employees, parents and community contacts
• Good written and verbal skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Occasional evenings/weekends required
